Flo spots her first red double-decker bus!

"Look, Lexi!" I said. "A big red bus!" "It's called a double-decker," said Lexi. "Try to act cool, Flo."

"LEXI! LEXI! IT'S RED! IT'S TALL! IT HAS TWO FLOORS!!!"

We Made It to London!

Okay, so I might have been SO excited on the journey to London that I barely slept. I couldn't help it! We were going to LONDON! The city with Big Ben and palaces and... and... I didn't even know what else yet, but I was SO ready to find out!

When we finally arrived, Lexi and I stepped out into the London streets for the very first time. The air smelled different. The sounds were different. Everything was AMAZING!

Lexi, being her usual smart self, had already studied the map before we left. "Okay, Flo," she said, adjusting her green backpack. "First, we need to figure out how to get around the city. We should findβ€”"

But I wasn't listening. Because THAT'S when I saw it.

A RED BUS.

But not just ANY red bus. This bus was TALL. Like, really REALLY tall. Like TWO buses stacked on top of each other tall!

"LEXI! LEXI! LOOK!" I barked, spinning in three complete circles because my tail was wagging so hard I lost my balance.

Lexi stopped calmly, adjusted her green backpack with one paw, and looked up from the map she was studying. "Flo, it's just a bus."

"IT'S A TWO-STORY BUS, LEXI!" I practically howled with excitement.

Lexi's Wisdom:

"It's called a double-decker, Flo. And could you please try to act cool? People are staring." - Lexi, being her usual calm and collected self

Trying (and Failing) to Act Cool

I tried. I REALLY tried to act cool like Lexi said. I sat down. I stopped wagging my tail (which lasted about three seconds). I even tried to look casual and unimpressed.

But then... the bus MOVED! It came closer! It was going to stop RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!

"Lexi," I whispered (or tried to whisper - it came out more like an excited squeak). "Lexi, it's coming THIS way!"

"Yes, Flo. That's what buses do. They stop at bus stops." She was looking at her map again, so collected and smart. That's my Lexi!

The doors opened with a WHOOSH sound. My ears perked up so high they almost flew off my head!

"Can we... can we go ON it?" I asked, my paws dancing with excitement.

Lexi looked up, her green eyes sparkling. "Well, that IS the plan for today. Shall we?"

Our First Ride!

If I thought the bus looked amazing from the OUTSIDE, that was nothing compared to the INSIDE!

Lexi hopped up the steps like it was no big deal (did I mention she's basically a superhero?). I scrambled up behind her, my tail wagging so hard I nearly knocked into three different people.

"Sorry! Excuse me! First time on a double-decker! SO EXCITED! Sorry!" I woofed to everyone we passed.

And then Lexi said the most magical words I'd ever heard:

"Let's go upstairs, Flo."

UPSTAIRS?! THERE REALLY WAS AN UPSTAIRS?!

Flo and Lexi on the red bus seats

"But I was too excited to act cool. I wagged my tail so much I nearly fell off the seat!"

The Top Deck Adventure

We climbed the spiral staircase (Lexi hopped up those stairs on three legs faster than I could run up on four!). And when we got to the top...

OH. MY. DOG.

We could see EVERYTHING! The whole city of London spread out before us like a giant playground! Buildings and people and other buses and cars and shops and...

"Flo, breathe," Lexi reminded me gently. I realized I'd been holding my breath from sheer excitement.

We found the perfect seats right at the very front of the top deck. The BEST seats in the whole bus! Lexi settled onto the red seat, securing her green backpack beside her. I tried to sit calmly next to her.

I lasted approximately five seconds.

My tail started wagging. Then my whole back end started wiggling. Then I was practically bouncing on the seat!

"But I was too excited to act cool!" I woofed happily. "I wagged my tail so much I nearly fell off the seat!"

Lexi laughed - this wonderful little purr-laugh she does when I'm being silly. "That's okay, Flo. You don't need to be cool. You just need to be YOU."

That's when I remembered why Lexi is my best friend in the whole world. She lets me be excited. She never makes me feel bad for being... well, for being ME!

The Grand Tour

The bus started moving, and OH WOW! We were gliding through the streets of London from the TOP FLOOR! It was like flying, but without leaving the ground!

Lexi had the map spread out and was pointing out all the famous sights as we passed them:

"Look, Flo, there's Westminster Abbey!"

"Over there - that's Trafalgar Square!"

"See that building? That's the National Gallery!"

But honestly? I was just as amazed by the BUS itself. How did it stay balanced? How did it go around corners without tipping over? How did it know where to go?

A friendly elderly lady sitting behind us must have heard my questions (I might have been woofing them out loud without realizing it). She leaned forward and said, "This is a very special bus, loves. This is a classic Routemaster!"

"What's a Rootmaster?" I asked, tilting my head so far my ear flopped over.

"ROUTE-master," Lexi corrected gently, because she's smart like that. "It's a famous type of London bus!"

The Best Part

We rode that bus for almost two hours, going all around London. We saw so many incredible things! But do you know what the BEST part was?

It wasn't the view (though that was AMAZING).

It wasn't the bus itself (though that was INCREDIBLE).

It wasn't even being on the top deck (though that was SPECTACULAR).

The best part was sitting next to my best friend, sharing this adventure together. Watching Lexi confidently navigate us through the city on three legs, her green backpack secure on her back, her eyes bright with intelligence and joy.

At one point, while we were going around Piccadilly Circus, I looked over at Lexi. She had put down her map and was just... watching the city go by. Her tail was swishing gently, and she had this small smile on her face.

"Having fun?" I asked her.

She looked at me, and her smile got bigger. "The most fun, Flo. Thank you for reminding me to see the magic."

"Thank you for keeping us from getting lost!" I woofed back, nuzzling her side.

She bumped her head against mine. "That's what best friends do. Balance each other out."
